magnolias by Flaven magnolias by Flaven
We have many wild magnolia trees in our Charelston home. This painting is similar to a famous artist (M. J. Heade) in the 19th Century

This is a lovely example of how painting white flowers such as this can be done by a skilled artist.

Did you use a photo as a reference? The tinting is just enough to bring out the shadows and highlights and proves that a white flower such as your magnolia is anything but boring.

actually, this is an adaptation from a painting by a famous artist back in 1870's: Martin Johnson Heade!

Absolutely stunning!   The flowers look so bright on the dark background. They aren't just dull white (if it's possible to describe magnolias in such an unfavorable way) but seem to be touched by a ray of sunshine. Well done! :shamrock: :frail:

thankyou, we have numerous magnolia trees at our SC home; nice to look at but, when the leaves fall, they never desintergrate..they're like leather!!

A little ego-warming can't be a bad thing - and, what's more, in your case it is entirely deserved and earned! :D

the painting is amazing. one suggestion i have though, is to resize the picture. the resolution is high and my dail-up interenet connection is just way to slow for me to enjoy your paintings.

Very beautiful! Again, is it oil?

I used to have family in Charleston but they've all passed away now. Still, I'd love to visit there sometime. I haven't been since I was a child.

Your work is outstanding.

Beautiful painting. I have seen magnolias only when visiting Atlanta in May 2002.
